The weather was decidedly changeable and blustery although no rain was seen until after 6 pm; only the hardy were playing and scores were low with not a 2 in sight! The Broad-billed Roller, he of the splendid hair, was seen playing an amazing Sandy from the 10th bunker and was duly applauded. This year's sponsor, Master Bird was first with 36 points from a couple of past champs, the Orange-throated Longclaw (S. Ling - think putter), the Grey Loerie (G.Lee) and, of course, the Road Runner. Hotly contesting the crisps were the Green Twinspot and our own Glossy Ibis, always keen to be seen busily preening. Our tame professional, the Blue-billed Firefinch also generously contributed. It is reported that some people are very reluctant to either buy crisps or get in the prizes to avoid being mentioned in dispatches; G.Adams should not worry that he may become the Buff-spotted Flufftail since there are many other birds out there yet, just waiting to be named! |
