The day was cloudy, dry with some wind which made the hard ground difficult; together with sandless bunkers, nearly impossible! The Road-stroller, muted Glossy Ibis and Speckled Mousebird were first off, pursued by the Swifts, models of patience; they had been joined by the Bleating Bush Warbler who was quietish, probably breathless with the speed of play. Scoring was moderate with the Bronze-wing Courser (very bronzed from Greece) first from the Golden-rumped Tinker Barbet, both with 37 points beating your very own editor and the Blue-billed Firefinch. Buying crisps were the Ring-necked Parakeet (again!), the Orange-throated Longclaw, the Narinia Trogan and the Blue Crane, who was looking very sorry for himself as he submitted his card, with his bill well down on his chest! The Corncrake (Compo), even with his brilliant blue sunglasses, is struggling with his handicap of -3, reduced now, of course, to -2. |
