The weather was fair with a little wind and the course was playing beautifully. On this final day of the season, the competition was intense with obvious nerves early on. The Corncrake was dressed, a la Gary Player, all in black and the Glossy Ibis was a little muted in orange. It has been noticeable that the Bleating Bush Warbler has been quiet recently, probably now enjoying the pin positions! Crisp donators were led by the Bar-tailed Godwit who pipped the Crowned Crane and the Golden-rumped Tinker Barbet and the ever resplendent Broadbilled Roller. Winners this week with 40 points on amazingly detailed countback (thanks to the Secretary Bird) were the Slender Bulbul (we apologise for a website error) from the Groot Tinktinkie. They were followed by a host of 37 pointers but emerging were the Bronze-wing Courser and the Red-necked Phalarope (W.Parkman). This year's champion, for the second year in succession is the Road Runner. Back and knee bandaged, he managed to overawe the Glossy Ibis who was suffering under a handicap of minus 4. Well done Gary! |
