It was sunny and windy but not really hard underfoot. The greens had been cut for the County Championship last Sunday and so were behaving slightly differently. This does not explain the fevered competition to buy the crisps with 3 players managing to break this year's lowest score. Alan Hannigan, in his travails, managed at the 10th to hit his tee shot into the rough 50 yards off the tee, smash out onto the fairway and then contrive to hit the ball over his head back into the rough. His partners were much entertained, and to his credit, no bag or club followed the path of the ball. Tricks managed to 5 putt three times and avoided the crisps. Back to the wind, and there was concern for the immaculate Andy Smith as his hair was disturbed on more than one occasion. Offers of a hat were, I thought, rather curtly rejected. Congratulations to Andy Avis with a very creditable 41 points to win this week. |
