It was cloudy, dry with little wind and the course was damp and forgiving. Since 'Neverready' Biggs was on time, the Swifts flew off the starting blocks to some sustained barracking. Ex-marksman Andy Smith, having zeroed his sights, won with a cracking 42 points and is cut 10; plenty of competition with 40 from Steve Coomber (unlocking his potential?), Oliver Yarde (challenging for champion), Nat Pepperell (top of table now) and Keiren Chaffer (cut 5) make next week's final day exciting. Of course, there were losers, particularly The Hatter (what's hattening?), Chris no-hole-in-one, Busty Miller (wearing shorts, the tough guy) and Prof Reid, seen wandering aimlessly around the 17th green in search of someone to hit him from tee or fairway. A mention for Beefy who was very excited after an early birdie at the 3rd but prefers to be known as Hamburger apparently. Gary the Road Runner was seen up at the club on Saturday with his wife so things must be looking up?.. but nice to see him. Finally, only one 2 from OH-Why which netted him £20 (jealous comments to the Ed will be treated with rare compassion). |
