The weather was warm and perfect for golf with a hard bouncy course and fastish greens. Firstly, The Cape White-eye (J.Wright) had a hole in one so ruined the hopes of those scoring '2s'. The Bleating Bush Warbler was first with 39 points beating The Birdman (A.Avis) on the back nine, then the Crested Barbet and your very own editor (the Lappet-faced Vulture). Last week's leader, the Slender Bulbul, was nearly last (blattent handicap fixing!), beaten by the Bar-tailed Godwit followed by the Red-billed Oxpecker, the Ring-necked Parakeet (again!) and the Green Twinspot. A terrible incident occurred when the Serinus Scotops hurled his 6 iron into his trolley and bust the shaft. This was poor technique, as every good club thrower knows: you always chuck in the direction of travel. It did mean more business for the Blue-billed Firefinch though! |
